Field scenario: You are alone on a five-acre job. Cell service is weak near the woods but good by the trailer.
Why this matters
The briefing turns individual assumptions into one shared operating plan and creates proof that safety steps happened.
Pass standard
Scope, hazards, communication, emergency response, and proof are complete before production.
- Brief the day’s scope, hazards, machine pattern, safe zones, radio channel/hand signals, first-aid kit, fire extinguisher, spill kit, and emergency muster point.
- Solo operators replace the group briefing with a digital record: flag hazards, upload photos, complete the checklist, and text dispatch/team before climbing into the cab.
- The check-in must include: setup complete, hazards mapped, muster/parking location, and estimated next check-in or completion time.
- Keep the phone or communication device physically on your person. Not in the truck. Not loose in the cab.

Common mistakes
- Skipping the briefing because everyone is experienced.
- Failing to identify first aid/fire/spill equipment.
- Solo operators keeping the plan in their head only.
Document in Jobber
- Completed checklist.
- Before photos.
- Solo check-in text details and next check-in time.
Field standard: No briefing and no proof means the job is not ready for production.
